Monday, January 19th is a federal/state holiday and school will not be in session at either PFFS-Downtown or PFFS-University. Grounded as both schools are in the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the freedom movement, this is one holiday we appreciate greatly. We would like to encourage everyone in the Paulo Freire Freedom School community to participate in someway in the events that have been scheduled around Tucson.
The United Way has put together a useful chart of service opportunities and events that includes descriptions and contact information. Please note that the starting point for this year’s MLK Day march is not the UA Mall but rather Santa Rita Park (401 E. 22nd Street) at 9:00 am. The march concludes as usual at Armory Park (220 S. 5th Ave).
This weekend and the Monday holiday itself present several service learning opportunities for our 8th graders who need 20 hours of service learning for their Graduation Exhibition.
The new motion picture Selma is being shown throughout Tucson – check local listings. This film has been rated PG13. We highly recommend that everyone in our community sees Selma some time during its run in Tucson. See local listings.
