PFFS-Downtown Governing Board Recruitment Begins

We use a two-tier, governance structure in the operation of our two schools (see ‘Governance’ at PFFS-Downtown and PFFS-University).  Whereas El Pueblo Integral – Teaching & Learning Collaborative  (EPI) is the charter holder for both Paulo Freire Freedom School – University and Paulo Freire Freedom School – Downtown and the EPI Corporate Board (CB) has fiduciary responsibility for the operations of the non-profit organization including the operations of PFFS-University and PFFS-Downtown – each school is to have its own School Governing Board (SGB).  The SGB for each school is responsible for individual school practices/policies related to school climate and culture (including but not limited to the expulsion of students) and for carrying out the mission and strategic plan of the CB.

During this 2014-2015 school year, the School Governing Board of PFFS-University has served as the SGB for both schools.  However, by September of the 2015-2016 school year, a separate SGB for PFFS-Downtown will be convened and will mirror the structure of the PFFS-University governing board – a structure that we have found to be extremely successful.  The PFFS-University governing board consists of the two co-directors, two school staff members, two community members and three parents.

We are recruiting now the community and parent members who will serve on the 2015-2016 PFFS-Downtown ‘School Governing Board’.  If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, please use the form below to communicate your interest:
