PFFS & The ‘All Souls Procession’

all soulsSunday, November 8th is Tucson’s All Souls Procession, a tradition unique to our community in which thousands of participants process together along a two mile stretch culminating in “the ceremonial burning of a large Urn filled with the hopes, offerings and wishes of the public for those who have passed.”

Since Tucson is also participating this year in another equally compelling communal event, The Big Read, where the works of Edgar Allan Poe are being highlighted and celebrated throughout the year, Paulo Freire Freedom School has decided to merge the two events and walk in the procession with Poe art objects. Anyone from either of the two PFFS communities or from the City High School community who would like to join together to experience this expression of grief/loss combined with rejoicing of creative energy and life should meet at PFFS-University at 3:45 pm on Sunday – or look for us in the crowd and just join in.
