Summer’s here.
After a year of carefully designed learning experiences, our young people are possibly faced with weeks of unstructured play time. At PFFS, we heartily support letting kids have some down time – especially if its not all screen-based, but involves physical, social and imaginative play. But we also believe summer can be a great time to expose kids to all sorts of activities that will fuel their passions. Tucson has a wealth of summer programming for tweens to participate in. We have compiled a list of resources for you to look at:
Camps and Enrichment Activities

Academics
Summer is also a time when students can get a little extra support in academics. Of course this can happen without leaving your home – reading, Khan Academy, numerous on-line coding websites, journaling – but there are also formal Summer School programs available for more structured assistance. These are generally offered by public district schools that have the resources to provide classes in the summer. Here are listings from two school districts:
Tucson Unified School District: Summer School
Sunnyside Unified School District: Summer School 2016
Summer Food Program
Finally, not all families have an easy time providing consistent, healthy meals to their kids without the support of their school meal programs. Many schools throughout Tucson continue to offer breakfast and lunch throughout the summer. Here is some information on these programs:
