CITY Center for Collaborative Learning continues to offer professional development experiences for educators and education advocates and lead three small secondary schools (our own PFFS-Downtown & PFFS-University and City High School) as demonstration sites for the innovative practices we promote.
This coming week CITY Center is hosting the ‘Intersession Residency Workshop’, a day-long immersion inquiry for adult learners into the highly innovative, Intersession Program at the Paulo Freire Freedom Schools (middle grades 6-8).
During Fall and Spring Intersession, at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters, PFFS “students participate in four days of intense learning with a small group of students around one particular theme/topic.” Since the opening of PFFS-University in 2005 and PFFS-Downtown in 2014, more than 150 different, week-long Intersession experiences have been designed and implemented.
Workshop participants will spend an entire day, during the Spring 2017 Intersession week at the Paulo Freire schools, learning deeply about how teachers design and implement Intersession. The day will include the presentation of program design/implementation suggestions from the PFFS founders and teachers, guided observations of Intersession groups in progress (approximately 12 will be underway on 3/14), and facilitated discussions of these observations.
