This week’s expedition is to Native Seeds/SEARCH. We will be going to the Seed Bank on River Rd, where we will first be learning about Native Seeds/SEARCH’s mission to preserve local and heritage foods, and then be doing some volunteer work with the organization. If we have time, we will wrap up the expedition by visiting River Rd Gardens, a biodynamic farm across the street.
“Native Seeds/SEARCH conserves, distributes and documents the adapted and diverse varieties of agricultural seeds, their wild relatives and the role these seeds play in cultures of the American Southwest and northwest Mexico. We promote the use of these ancient crops and their wild relatives by gathering, safeguarding, and distributing their seeds to farming and gardening communities.” Read More
I am in need of a few drivers to take us to and from NS/S. We will leave around 9:30 AM and be back by 1 PM. Please email or call me if you are able to help.
Students will need to wear closed toe shoes and clothes they do not mind getting dirty. Everyone will also need to have water and a lunch.
If you have any questions, please let me know!
