JoAnn Groh

JoAnn (2)

Working closely with my partner Santo, we have now opened two innovative middle schools that take care of the academic, social and emotional needs of young adolescents.  This year I am the Principal of PFFS-Downtown that features interdisciplinary project based learning and individualized learning playlists designed around students’ strengths, stretches and passions.

In addition to working as an instructional leader here in Tucson, at times I am privileged to work with educators around the country (and recently even in Chile).  I am a National Faculty member of the Buck Institute for Education specializing in project-based learning and work with the School Reform Initiative training teachers to become coaches of professional learning communities using the SRI ‘critical friendship’ model.

I am also proud of my two beautiful children.  Brianna is making her own way working in Philadelphia at Aberdeen Asset Management and  Jacob is a Senior at the UofA studying computer programming.  It is a great pleasure watching them mature into wonderful adults.  At home now, I have a cat.

Prior to my education career I practiced civil litigation in San Francisco where more often than not I set aside my legal research to write poetry while overlooking North Beach.
